Canada Signs New Agreement With Pfizer as Moderna Deals with Manufacturing Issues

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is in an incredibly serious third wave of COVID-19 with numbers in some places higher than ever.

He says he understands that everybody is sick and tired, but we need to hunker down to make it through to summer.

With Moderna dealing with manufacturing issues, Trudeau says Canada has signed a new agreement for another 8-million doses of Pfizer on top of what has already been purchased.

An extra 4-million will be delivered in May, with 2-million in June and 2-million in July.

With more doses arriving sooner, more people will be getting their vaccines, Trudeau says, and that means we remain on track to have everyone fully vaccinated by the end of September.

Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, says Canada ranks fourth among G20 countries for doses administered per capita, and second when it comes to the average number of doses administered daily per capita.

Anand says Canada will have received between 48 and 50-million vaccine doses by the end of June.
