Federal Government Ending Emergencies Act

The federal government is revoking the Emergencies Act.

Stating their is no longer an emergency, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is ending the use of the act, rather than letting it run its course of 30 days.

It was implemented over a week ago in response to ongoing COVID-19 mandate protests in downtown Ottawa and various border crossings across the country, and approved for use in the House of Commons on Monday.

Over the next 60 days a public inquiry will investigate the circumstances surrounding the use of the Emergencies Act.

Federal officials add any violations of the law that occurred during the 10 days the measures were in place will continue to be followed up on through the justice systems.
