A Strike Looms At C.P Rail

Farm officials in Saskatchewan are calling for binding arbitration to stop a possible strike at CP Rail, after 96 per cent of its members voted for job action if necessary over wages, benefits and pensions. Agriculture minister David Marit is worried about the impact on grain movement if the strike goes ahead, and wants binding arbitration to settle the contract dispute. SARM president Ray Orb says a strike would seriously disrupt prairie grain exports and binding arbitration is an option, and has written to the federal government, requesting efforts be made to avoid a strike by railway workers.
