The Prairie Valley School Division will be getting rid of a special bussing accommodation in June of 2023. The accommodation allowed students that lived outside of catchment areas for North Valley High and Elementary Schools and Balcarres Community School to take the bus to said schools of their choice. The accommodation was made 10 years ago for families in Abernethy and surrounding rural areas, and the last student covered by this is set to graduate next year. Once it expires the School Division will continue with the bus catchment areas as normal, and students who live outside them will have to either head to the nearest bus or have their parents drive them to school. The School Division said in a statement this decision follows a boundary review and public consultations held last November, and recognizes this will not please everyone.
