The Saskatchewan government unanimously passed a motion to adopt the FSIN Declaration to Honour Indigenous Women and Girls, that was read in the Legislature yesterday (THURS), by NDP MLA Betty Nippi-Albright.
Yorkton Tribal Council Tribal Chief Isabel O’Soup was in Regina for the reading, and says that while it is a positive step that the motion was passed, everyone must work together to ensure that it doesn’t lead to simply words, but action.
The motion was read into the legislature on Red Dress Day, a day for raising awareness of and honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women.
In Yorkton, a large crowd gathered at the YTC office yesterday afternoon, for a memorial walk, feast and pipe ceremony, honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women.
