The Opposition NDP reacted to Premier Scott Moe’s Cabinet shuffle today (Tues).
In a statement, NDP leader Ryan Meili says the shuffle indicates a status quo approach to addressing issues such as affordability, health care capacity, education and investments in mental health.
“The Sask. Party had the opportunity to show that they have been listening to the concerns raised by families across this province and put in place ministers ready to do the work. Instead, they’ve maintained the very ministers who take their marching orders and continue to sit on their hands.” Meili said.
Meili’s harshest criticism was the decision to keep Paul Merriman as Health Minister.
Meili accused Merriman of having the worst response to the 4th COVID-19 wave, highest COVID death rate, senior health leaders leaving, and fostering a divisive relationship with health care workers while under his leadership.
“Maintaining him in this role sends a clear signal to frontline workers and will create clear challenges when it comes to the retention and recruitment of health care workers to this province.” said Meili.
