The Canadian and Manitoba governments announced more than $34.4-million in funding for 10 wastewater and waste management projects in the province.
Four local communities are receiving some of that funding.
The City of Dauphin is receiving $9.1-million for the expansion and upgrade of its lagoon system, which will increase capacity to treat and manage wastewater and to accommodate population growth.
Neepawa is getting nearly $4.2-million for its wastewater treatment system expansion and upgrade that will also increase capacity to treat and manage wastewater and storm water.
The R.M. of Prairie View is receiving over $1.5-million for the rehabilitation of Birtle’s Sanitary Sewer and Water Main system.
The Municipality of Russell-Binscarth is getting over $6.2-million for upgrading Russell’s lagoon site. Work includes the partial demolition of storage cells and their reconstruction.
The federal government’s funding comes from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Green Infrastructure Stream.
Of the $34.4-million, Ottawa is pitching in more than $18.7-million, Manitoba providing more than $15.6-million and the communities involved more than $12.5-million.
