The Manitoba government will be bumping up the minimum wage this fall, and eventually up to 15 dollars an hour by next fall.
The provincial minimum wage will rise to $13.50 on October 1, 2022, then to $14.15 on April 1st, 2023, and finally to $15.00 on October 1st, 2023. Currently, the minimum wage is $11.95.
Minister of Labour, Consumer Protection, and Government Services Reg Helwer says this will help Manitobans deal with the high costs of living.
The provincial government will soon begin consultations with small businesses on support programs to help adjust to the higher payroll costs.
Minister of Economic Development, Investment and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen acknowledged these increases may create challenges for businesses, and they want to avoid unintended consequences that might result in higher prices.
