Manitoba To Establish Healing Lodges In The Pas/Brandon

The Province of Manitoba is making a one-time capital investment of 1.4 million dollars, to establish healing lodges at its correctional facilities in Brandon and The Pas. In a release, Justice Minister Kelviin Goertzen says the “Standing Together Healing Lodges” will use methods such as traditional teachings and ceremonies, and life skills training, to support inmate education, family reunification, sobriety, and reconnection to community and culture, as a means to reduce the inmates’ likelihood to re-offend, and improve public safety. Once the facilities are up and running, the province will provide 1.2 million dollars on an annual basis, to support staffing and operating costs for the healing lodges.
