Cowessess F.N. man charged in dangerous driving incident makes first court appearance

Two people charged in connection with an alleged case of dangerous driving in Regina last week, made their first appearance in Regina Provincial Court Monday.

24-year-old Matthew Lerat-Polson of the Cowessess First Nation, and 38-year-old Jeffrey Edward Canada of Regina, remain in custody on charges including Dangerous Driving and Possession of Ammunition While Prohibited, with Lerat-Polson to return to court next Tuesday, while Canada will appear again next Thursday.

Late Friday night, Regina Police say a vehicle blew through a red light at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Albert Street, and nearly hit a police vehicle.

The RPS Aerial Support Unit tracked the vehicle to a home on the 700-block of Albert Street, where the two men in the vehicle entered the residence, and shortly after, police entered the home, arresting the pair for dangerous driving, and a search of their vehicle turned up ammunition, a violation of conditions.
