Fishing Lake First Nation Man Facing Drug Charge After Routine Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop on the Fishing Lake First Nation has resulted in charges against the driver.

Last Wednesday, a vehicle was pulled over on the reserve, and it was determined that the driver didn’t have a licence.

A search of the driver and the vehicle turned up about 225 grams of crystal meth, some pharmaceutical-style pills, a hunting-style knife, and drug paraphernalia.

27-year-old Ashley Smoke of the Fishing Lake First Nation faces two charges, including Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

He’s been remanded in custody for his next court appearance in Wynyard on Thursday.
