The weather is changing this week, transitioning into a more autumnal vibe. It’s that time of the year when the leaves start to change color, and there’s a crisp chill in the air. Over the weekend, we took the opportunity to set up our Halloween decorations, transforming our home into a spooky wonderland. It feels incredibly satisfying to have that task completed, knowing that we’re all set to welcome the enthusiastic trick-or-treaters. Their delighted faces and the sound of laughter make all the preparation worthwhile. Bring on the costumes and candy!

It was so good to see all the costumes and smiling faces. My youngest dressed up with his buddies and went out for hours trekking all over. They came back with quite the haul of treats. I was surprised we didn’t see more Barbie’s, it was more of the traditional costumes. How many trick or treaters did you get and where? Ever since I was able to pick out my Halloween costume, there’s always been confusion as to what I’m “supposed to be”. For example, in 2005 I was Glinda the Good Witch of the North from The Wizard of Oz. But, since I lived in Saskatchewan I had to wear my winter coat over it, and it happened to be a Barbie jacket so everyone thought I was Barbie.

Next year I was a 50s dancer, everyone thought I was a 70s dancer. Year after that I was a zombie, everyone thought I was a hippie. Another year I was a fortune teller, everyone thought I was a Roma person. Flapper = Go-go Dancer. Vampire = Goth.

Come on that’s a vampire, I have the cape and everything.

But the most insane of all, one year I was Supergirl. Everyone knows who that is. You have the big “S” on the chest. And to be fair, a lot of people did know who I was, but there was this one woman that I’ll never forget. She looked at me and confidently said, “Wonder Woman!”

This is not Wonder Woman.

I’ve learned that it’s just part of life for me, but I guess will see if anyone can get my costume this year.
