The Swan Valley Stampeders got off to a fast start and rode three power-play goals to a 5-2 win over the Portage Terriers in Manitoba Junior Hockey League action Friday.
Swan Valley built a 3-0 lead in the first period, with Beckett Cross scoring his first of the season before Dylan Ruff and Alex Campbell added goals.
Ruff struck again early in the second, scoring his eighth of the season to make it 4-0. Portage responded through Rhett Perrin to cut the deficit to three heading into the third.
Trace Langan restored Swan Valley’s four-goal lead early in the final frame with a power-play marker. The Terriers added another goal shortly after, but couldn’t get any closer as the Stampeders secured the win.
Swan Valley outshot Portage 49-41, with Easton Falls making 39 saves for the victory. Mitchell Kathler turned aside 44 shots in the loss for the Terriers.
The Stampeders improve to 5-3 on the season and return to action next Saturday when they visit the Steinbach Pistons.
