Arrest Made in Stabbing of Manitoba Police Officer

An arrest has been made in connection with the stabbing of a police officer on the Waywayseecappo First Nation.
21-year-old Matthew Benn has been charged with Attempted Murder, and he remains in custody.
The Manitoba First Nations Police officer was called to a business in the late evening of May 29th on a report of a disturbance, and when he attempted to arrest a male, another male stabbed the officer multiple times.
The officer then drew his firearm, and shot the second male.
The 29-year-old police officer was treated in hospital for serious injuries, but has since been released.
The incident is still under investigation by the RCMP and the Independent Investigation Unit.
