Court Appearance for Waywayseecappo First Nation Man Charged with Attempted Murder of Police Officer

A man arrested in connection with the stabbing of a police officer on the Waywayseecappo First Nation, has appeared in court.
21-year-old Matthew Benn was in Brandon today (Thu), charged with Attempted Murder, and was remanded in custody to June 24th.
The Manitoba First Nations Police officer was called to a business in the late evening of May 29th on a report of a disturbance, and when he attempted to arrest a male, another male stabbed the officer multiple times.
The officer then drew his firearm, and shot the second male.
The 29-year-old police officer was treated in hospital for serious injuries, but was released soon after.
