Two Ontario men arrested in connection with an incident in Wynyard involving a stolen vehicle, have appeared in court.

On Monday, a Mountie conducting patrols ran the licence plate of a vehicle, which came back as stolen from Ontario.

The officer followed the vehicle onto Highway 16, where he initiated a traffic stop, but when he approached on foot, the driver sped into Wynyard.

The suspect reached speeds of over 100 kilometres per hour within the town, so a spike belt had to be used, and the driver and passenger were arrested about 6 kilometres west of Wynyard.

23-year-old John Hipwell and 23-year-old Lonnie Herrington appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court this (Fri) morning, and were remanded in custody for bail hearings next Wednesday.
