Some Highlights from 2019 SJHL AGM

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League held their annual general meeting last weekend in Nipawin.

From the meeting it was decided that a few changes will be made starting in the 2019/20 season.

First was the adoption of the hybrid icing rule which SJHL Ref-in-Chief Brad Howard says is an attempt to avoid close instances as the play is called if the defending player is ahead in the race to the puck by the face-off circles.

Meantime also implemented is the introduction of a discipline committee.

Going forward instead of SJHL President Bill Chow hearing the appeal himself, it will now be done by a three-person committee to see if the suspension is to be reduced or not.

The biggest change for the upcoming season will be a change to the playoff format.

Starting in 2019/20, there will be no more Survivor series as now the top 8 teams overall by point totals after the regular season regardless of division will qualify for the postseason.

Fans can also expect the 2019/20 SJHL Schedule to be released in the near future.
