Two Ontario Men Appear in Yorkton Provincial Court; One Sentenced, Other Released on Bail to Return Later This Month

Two Ontario men arrested in connection with an incident in Wynyard involving a stolen vehicle, have appeared in court again.
On June 3rd, a Mountie conducting patrols ran the licence plate of a vehicle, which came back as stolen from Ontario.
The officer followed the vehicle onto Highway 16, where he intitiated a traffic stop, but when he approached on foot, the driver sped into Wynyard.
The suspect reached speeds of over 100 kilometres per hour within the town, so a spike belt had to be used, and the driver and passenger were arrested about 6 kilometres west of Wynyard.
In Yorkton Provincial Court today (Wed), 23-year-old John Hipwell pleaded guilty to his role in the incident, and was sentenced to 75 days in jail, to be followed by a one-year driving ban.
His co-accused, 23-year-old Lonnie Herrington, was released on 5-hundred dollars bail, and will return to Wynyard Court on June 27th.
