Ontario Man Appears in Wynyard Court

A new court date has been set for an Ontario men, arrested near Wynyard in a stolen vehicle.
In Wynyard yesterday (Thu), 23-year-old Lonnie Herrington had his matters adjourned until July 25th.
His co-accused, 23-year-old John Hipwell, pleaded guilty to his role in the incident earlier this month, and was sentenced to 75 days in jail, to be followed by a one-year driving ban.
On June 3rd, a Mountie conducting patrols ran the licence plate of a vehicle, which came back as stolen from Ontario.
The officer followed the vehicle onto Highway 16, where he initiated a traffic stop, but when he approached on foot, the driver sped into Wynyard.
The suspect reached speeds of over 100 kilometres per hour within the town, so a spike belt had to be used, and the driver and passenger were eventually arrested about 6 kilometres west of Wynyard.
