Crime Numbers Down in Saskatchewan, Holding Steady In Saskatoon

The annual Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics report says several incidents across the country in 2018 impacted crime numbers at the local, provincial and national levels.

One of those would be the Humboldt Broncos bus crash with a semi where 16 people were killed and 13 were injured.

The crime rate and the Crime Severity Index for Saskatchewan and for its 2 largest cities remain close to the top of the list, but there have been some improvements.

Saskatchewan’s Crime Severity Index was down 3 percent in 2018 and the crime rate down by 1 percent compared to 2017, sitting at 4th highest of the provinces and territories.

Of the cities, Lethbridge had the highest CSI followed by Regina, Winnipeg and then Saskatoon.
