Ontario Man Returns to Court After High Speed Chase in Wynyard

An Ontario man arrested in connection with an incident in Wynyard involving a stolen vehicle has appeared in court again.

On June 3rd, a Mountie conducting patrols ran the license plate of a vehicle, which came back as stolen from Ontario.

The officer followed the vehicle onto Highway 16, where he initiated a traffic stop, but when he approached on foot, the driver sped into Wynyard.

The suspect reached speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour within the town, so a spike belt had to be used, and the driver and passenger were finally arrested about 6 kilometers west of Wynyard.

In Wynyard Provincial Court yesterday (Thu), 23-year-old Lonnie Herrington had his matters adjourned until August 22nd.

His co-accused, 23-year-old John Hipwell, pleaded guilty to his role in the incident last month and was sentenced to 75 days in jail, to be followed by a one-year driving ban.
