More time has been given to farmers to pay outstanding 2018-19 cash advances through the Advance Payments Program.
The federal government has granted a six month extension until the end of March, and will continue to pay the interest on the interest-free portion of the outstanding advances.
Dave Gallant is with the Canadian Canola Growers Association, one of the organizations that administers the Advance Payments Program on Ottawa’s behalf.
He says this will eliminate the requirement for a farmer to sell grain at today’s prices when its not in their best interest and to wait until the markets rebound, as well as focusing more on harvest activities.
Gallant says the extension will be used by 4,900 farmers with cash advances administered by the Canola Growers Association.
