City of Melville Continues Preparations to Change Street Name to Honour Veterans

The City of Melville continues to move forward with a plan to change a portion of Prince William Drive and all of South Service Road West to Veterans Way.
Public Works Manager Andrew Fahlman says they will be ordering the new signs out of Winnipeg and hope to have them delivered to Melville next month.
Fahlman said during the September 3 Melville City Council meeting it would take two workers one hour to change the street signs and it would be done on a day where other construction projects couldn’t be completed due to weather, as an example.
The public also had the chance to provide feedback, with one resident saying “I’m concerned that we are spending money for things when we have so many other issues to resolve in our city, such as roads, recycling , etc.”
“I don’t want to come across as unwilling to make a change in honour of our veterans; I would be more than happy to accept this change if it meant little effect to other projects that should take priority.
At this time, as a resident of Melville, I would not be willing to move forward with this change.”
Fahlman responded by saying he is “always willing to hear people out.”
“Yes, we do have limited resources here in the City of Melville and we do need to stretch them as far as we can…however it is a small price to pay for the great price that they (the veterans) gave back to us.”
“It’s not too often that we do get to honour our veterans the way that they should be honoured – both those that served us in the past and the ones that are currently serving us today. So this is just a small token of our appreciation.” Fahlman added.
