Passing Lanes will be Created Between Weyburn and Estevan

The Saskatchewan government is committing over 53-million dollars for five sets of passing lanes on Highway 39 between Weyburn and Estevan.

Highway’s Minister Greg Ottenbreit says while it’s not a twinning project, it still vastly increases road safety.

“Definitely in these areas, and this area in particular, passing lanes are a very efficient, effective way of increasing that safety, increasing the traffic flows.” Ottenbreit said.

That stretch of highway is one many don’t like being on because of the high amount of truck traffic which prevents people from wanting to pass.
It has also become dangerous because of some who do lose patience and pass only to get involved in an accident or near-accident.
Ottenbreit is hoping all work will be completed by the summer of 2021.
It also includes shoulder widening, resurfacing and culvert replacements.
