Jury Finds Woman Held in Custody at Indian Head RCMP Detachment in 2017 Died of Natural Causes

A public inquest into the death of a woman who was in custody at the Indian Head RCMP detachment two years ago has concluded.
The jury found Deanna Whitecap died of natural causes, however the exact cause was not identified.
The jury made 8 recommendations to improve safety in similar situations, and the RCMP will look at them and decide if they would be helpful moving forward.
Whitecap was in custody on charges of driving while disqualified and suspected impairment when she was found unresponsive, in her cell, on September 2, 2017 and later pronounced dead in hospital.
