At least 5 people have died, 20 were injured and several missing after a volcanic eruption 50 km off the coast of New Zealand. White Island erupted Monday, sending a plume of steam and ash about 36-hundred metres into the air. Scientists had recently noted an uptick in volcanic activity in the area, and there are questions as to why tourists were still able to visit the island.
