The Melville Millionaires couldn’t make it two straight wins on Wednesday as they fell 5-3 to the visiting Flin Flon Bombers at the Horizon Credit Union Center.
The Mils struck first in the 1st period as while on the PP a long point shot from Blake Campbell got re-directed in by Rin Beny for his 8th of the season to give the home team an early lead after 1 period.
In the 2nd, the Bombers would respond with two goals of their own. First Cole Rafuse potted his team-leading 34th of the season on a nifty feed from Tristan Lemyre before Mason Kaspick banged home his 5th to give the visitors their first lead at 2-1.
But the Mils knotted it up late in the second as Captain Aidan Steinke’s long shot hand-cuffed Jaocb Delorme to make it a 2-2 game after 40 minutes.
In the 3rd, it would stay tied until the Mils powerplay struck yet again as after a long point shot from Dylan Thackeray got stopped, Zach McIntyre was there to bang home the rebound for his 15th of the season to give the Mils a 3-2 lead.
But after a scrum around the net, it was determined that the Mils’ knocked off the net intentionally and with it happening in the final two minutes of the game that means a penalty shot & Alec Malo made no mistake beating Berk Berkeliev five-hole for his 20th to tie it up at 3’s.
Then with just 31 seconds left in regulation, Tanner Brown got dumped behind the net by Cole Rafuse away from the puck, and the 20 year old Mils defenceman would then get up and block a Alec Malo shot in his face area, and around the eye & while he was down on the ice, Malo stick-handled a bit then fed Cole Rafuse back-door for his 2nd of the evening giving the Bombers the late lead.
Former Millionaire Zach Bannister would add an empty-netter late to seal the victory.
Jacob Delorme turned aside 16 of 19 shots in the win for Flin Flon while Berk Berkeliev made 41 saves in the loss for the Mils.
The Mils will return to action on Friday night when they visit the Kindersley Klippers. GX94 will broadcast the game, starting with the “Sask Milk” pregame at 7:20 and the play by play gets underway at 7:30 from the West Central Events Center.
Melville wrap up the road-trip in the Battlefords on Saturday.
