Yorkton Firefighters are surveying the damage at Ram Industries on York Road after a fire broke out in the production area of the business.
Fire Chief Trevor Morrissey says they got called around midnight Thursday by people who were working in the plant at the time, and upon arrival encountered plenty of smoke.
“When you’re talking manufacturing plants, there is a lot of things that, when they burn or when they heat up, they just cause heavy smoke,” Morrissey said. “It’s actually hard to see the scene of the fire due to the intensity of the smoke within the building.”
No one was injured in the blaze, and Morrissey says they are ensuring the scene is safe enough to do an in depth investigation into the cause.
“We had to open up part of the building so there’s loose debris overhead. We’ve got contractors in here now to try and fix those problems and make it safe for everybody,” Morrissey explained.
“And then there is always air quality issues that we’re always cognizant about.”
“We’re not expecting that anything was done maliciously,” the Fire Chief added.
Ram expects to return to operation shortly.
According to Morrissey, the City of Yorkton is expected to provide an update into the matter sometime tomorrow (Fri) morning.
