The estimated amount of oil spilled in the second Guernsey area train derailment on February 6th has increased from 1.2-million litres to 1.6-million.
Canadian Pacific has told the Environment Ministry that 1.2-million litres have been recovered to date.
Crews were unable to stop the leaks until the fires were extinguished.
In an email, the Environment Ministry says it is monitoring the clean-up efforts.
CP’s job is to assess any environmental impacts, develop and implement appropriate remediation plans, assessing the soil and water for potential impacts, and managing the risk associated with the contamination.
A drilling program was completed to see what the soil and groundwater impacts may be, but the results are pending.
