Canopy Growth, a company that produces marijuana, is shutting down their operation in Yorkton, and moving the six employees to Edmonton.
Mayor Bob Maloney says he found out about the closure first thing this (Thu) morning.
Maloney says the company had been planning an expansion of the Yorkton facility, but economic reality and supply versus demand dictated otherwise.
In total, the company will cut about 85 full-time positions, and also exit its operations in South Africa and Lesotho.
