COVID-19 Update Friday, May 8
*19 new cases in Saskatchewan Thursday, totaling 531, all are in the North or far North. 329 people have recovered, there are 196 active cases and 6 deaths.
*Saskatchewan schools will remain closed until at least September due to the pandemic.
*Yorkton mayor Bob Maloney says the city could see $1.6 million from the $7.5 billion provincial economic stimulus package announced this week.
*No new cases in Manitoba yesterday. One probable case was negative, dropping the total to 283. 21 cases in the Prairie Mountain region. 243 people have recovered, there are 33 active cases and 7 deaths.
*In Canada as of Thursday evening, there were 64,922 cases, 4,408 deaths and 29,247 recoveries.
*The federal government has asked 12 foreign airlines to bring thousands of Canadians still stranded overseas by the pandemic home from secluded islands and in locked-down countries that Canadian carriers can’t reach.
*Globally, there are 3.8 million cases, 269,564 deaths and 1.3 million recoveries.
