PM announces a boost to the Canada Child Benefit and the approval for first Canadian clinical trials for a COVID-19 vaccine

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced more help is on the way for Canadian families.
During his daily COVID-19 briefing in Ottawa this morning, the Prime Minister said the federal government is boosting the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) for the month of May.
He says Canadian can expect an extra three-hundred dollars per child, when they receive their benefit this Wednesday (20th).
Trudeau added that starting July 20th, the government will increase the CCB again for the upcoming year, in order to keep up with the increased cost of living.
The Prime Minister also announced up 100 million dollars in support for the Canadian Red Cross, and up to 40 million dollars to support women’s shelters and sexual assault centres during the pandemic.
As well, he noted that Health Canada has approved the first Canadian clinical trials for a COVID-19 vaccine, at Dalhousie University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
If these trials are successful, Trudeau says Canada will have the ability to produce a vaccine at home.
