Some major road construction projects are about to get underway in Yorkton.
Mayor Bob Maloney says they will effect two main arteries on the city’s east side.
Darlington Street from Dracup Avenue to Mayhew Avenue, and Mayhew Avenue from the south intersection of Morrison Drive to Darlington Street, will be completely re-constructed.
“This includes the new intersection of Darlington Street and Mayhew Avenue opposite of the Gloria Hayden Community Centre.” Maloney added.
“The project also includes a new pathway from the roundabout at Dracup Avenue to Darlington Street to the new roundabout at Mayhew Avenue and Darlington Street. That work is going to be done in three phases – phase one starts at Mayhew Avenue from the south intersection with Morrison Drive to Fietz Street.”
Street sweeping in Yorkton is a little behind schedule, but Maloney says the public has been helping out.
“I’ve seen most people have swept their sidewalks already, which is great because the street sweepers pick it up on their way by. They did get started a little bit earlier in the south part of the city. We had a breakdown which slowed some things down, but our street sweeping is underway.”
Maloney says the city’s Facebook page will keep residents posted as to when their area of the city will be cleaned.
