It appears many people have sided with a Melville woman to keep her 3-year-old pig as a pet within city limits. A petition to keep a 3-year-old Vietnamese potbelly pig called “Beans” has been signed by nearly 3-thousand people as of Monday night. Mona Partridge created the petition after she was told by the City of Melville to re-home her pet pig within 30 days due to a bylaw that lists a pig as one of many animals prohibited to keep within city limits. She contends the pig was born and raised as a pet, has been trained and bothers no one. City Manager Ron McCullough says the bylaw officer is working with pet owner to write a letter which will then be brought to City Council at their next meeting on June 15.
