The Saskatchewan NDP has 2 requests for the provincial government after the announcement that students would be returning to the classroom in the fall.
Education critic Carla Beck says the provincial government needs to provide clear safety protocols for schools under the guidance of the Chief Medical Health Officer and the increased cost should be covered by the Ministry of Education.
Beck explains that even before the pandemic, school boards were struggling to make ends meet, dealing with increased class sizes and more complexity in the classroom.
She adds that the locally elected school boards should address the needs of their own school divisions within those guidelines, because every division is different.
Beck sees the role of the province as providing the safety protocols and making sure the funding is there for schools to implement them.
