Two provincial parks in Manitoba are receiving an increase in protection of natural habitats.
Duck Mountain and Turtle Mountain Provincial Parks both had their land use categories changed, to ensure the protection of 6-thousand-65 hectares of natural habitat and species in those areas.
Duck Mountain Provincial Park had 951 hectares changed from resource management to back-country use, to protect rare plant species in the park and to allow the moose population to recover.
Meanwhile, Tundra Oil and Gas ceased operations in Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, which will allow the restoration of native grasslands in the region.
