New Swimming Pool Project in Melville Starts With Deconstruction of the Current Pool

Soon, the old swimming pool in the City of Melville will be gone for good and one day be replaced with a brand new one.
Director of Community Services, Chris Bruce says a Request for Proposal process was done, with 3 companies putting in bids for the project – Paradise Pools, Western Recreation and Acapulco Pools.
Paradise Pools scored the highest based on criteria such as design, pool and water-slide design and specifications, project delivery and operation.
Bruce says they are in contract talks with the company and the cost of the project is $2-million.

Deconstruction of the old pool will begin in the next two weeks.

“It was very long overdue,” said Bruce with relief. “Our current pool is a 1967 with numerous issues held together with a bit of hope, and it’s definitely time for replacement.”
The new swimming pool will feature an accessible pool via a “beach-style” sloped entry, a water-slide and Junior Olympic length swimming lanes for competitions.
“It also provides numerous safety improvements as the beach slope entry and taught area are right outside of our change rooms, so it allows progressive entry into the pool to make sure nobody gets into the deep end before they want to be.” he added.
Construction is slated to begin this fall with completion expected to be in May of next year, which Bruce says will give them “lots of wiggle room to have it open on our June 1st season opener.”
