Federal Conservative Party Leadership Candidate Visits Yorkton

Yorkton received a visit from one of the candidates for the Leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Dr. Leslyn Lewis noted that she wants to fix the unity issues within the party.

“I saw that we were buying into a false narrative of a hyphenated Conservative, and certain Conservatives were not being valued within the party and there was a lot of discussion about expelling the social Conservatives from the party,” she said. “So I knew that there was no way that we would survive as a party if we weren’t united.”

She believes she can be a unifying voice for the party and for the country.

“I would like to first, start to deal with some of the regional discontent issues, especially with what’s happening in Quebec and Wexit.” Lewis said. “I’m very concerned about the Wexit movement, and that movement has arisen because there’s a lot of issues that have not been addressed and weren’t taken seriously.

I’d like to sit down and try and see if there’s ways that we could finds solutions to build a united Canada.”

She also touched on rebounding from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re going to have to deal with how we’re going to economically rebound out of COVID-19, and that’s a very, very important part of any leader’s policy is to decide how we’re going to build a strong economy out of COVID-19.

“We’re going to have to be very creative in finding efficiencies, finding new ways to do things and developing our resources and providing incentives for businesses to start rehiring people and to take risks in creating employment and building our economy.”

Voting ballots will be accepted until 3 p.m. SK time on August 21st.
