No More Tariffs on Canadian Aluminum

The United States is dropping tariffs on Canadian aluminum. Canada will not impose counter measures.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says the American decision is retroactive up till September 1st.

As for guarantees, Freeland says that after four years of working with this American administration Canada has to be ready for anything and expect any possibility.

Freeland describes it as a good piece of news for the Canadian and American economies and the aluminum industry.

Freeland also acknowledge that the tariffs were announced at the beginning of August and the US will keep what funds it accrued during the month of August.

She says if tariffs should be re-imposed Canada will put in retaliatory fees to match dollar for dollar.
