City of Yorkton Gearing Up for November’s Civic Election

Anyone who’s thinking about running for a spot on Yorkton City Council or Mayor have an opportunity to gather more information tonight (Thurs).
Returning Officer Jessica Matsalla says a “come & go” session is at the National Bank A Convention Room at the Gallagher Centre from 5 to 7 p.m.
“The intent of the night is to give potential candidates a little bit of an idea about the commitment level you’ll have if you’re a council member, some of the things that council decides, a list of agendas from past years to take a look at,” she said.
The call for nominations is officially out and nomination papers are available at City Hall on 3rd Avenue North and online at www.yorktonvotes.ca.
Nomination forms will be accepted, beginning on September 21st until October 7th.
“You have to be an eligible candidate, so that means you have to be 18-and-up, a Canadian citizen, you have to have resided within Yorkton for at least 3 consecutive months prior to the election and in Saskatchewan for at least 6 consecutive months,” Matsalla added.
Applications for a mail-in ballot are available at City Hall, on the yorktonvotes website, emailing [email protected] or calling 306-786-1717.
Ballots will be mailed out in mid-October.
Civic election day is November 9.
