Distracted driving is once again SGI’s traffic safety focus for October.
The insurance company’s Tyler McMurchy says the catchphrase for the initiative is “may I have your attention please”.
Even though the numbers of people getting ticketed are trending down, McMurchy says it’s still a a major road safety concern.
Last year, distracted driving contributed to 16 deaths and more than 4,500 collisions in Saskatchewan.
Distracted driving results in a $580 ticket and four demerit points for a first offence; penalties increase in severity for repeat offences.
