The Sask. Party says a re-elected Saskatchewan Party government will introduce a new Saskatchewan Home Renovation Tax Credit to make the cost of home renovations more affordable and help drive Saskatchewan’s economic recovery.
Leader Scott Moe made the announcement in Saskatoon.
Under the Tax Credit, homeowners would be able to claim a 10.5 per cent tax credit on up to $11,000 of eligible home renovation expenses incurred between October 1st of this year through December 31st of next year.
The maximum would mean a tax credit of $1,155.
Then in 2022, a maximum claim of $9,000 at 10.5 per cent would be a $945 savings.
Eligible expenses would include permanent additions to the home but would not include items like furniture, appliances, hot tubs, tools or maintenance like carpet or furnace cleaning.
It’s estimated that the program would cost $124 million over two years.
With the safe consumption site opening tomorrow (Thurs) in Saskatoon, Moe was asked why expected funding from the government didn’t come through in the last budget, considering the rising problems with addictions and overdose deaths.
He says there is nothing saying that they wouldn’t look at funding in the future, if elected, and highlighted recent support for crystal meth addictions beds in Estevan.
