The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation released results from a survey that was conducted to provide a snapshot of teachers’ experiences since returning to school.
A total of 2-thousand 108 STF members or 16 percent of participated in the online survey, over four days, since it was done under a tight deadline.
It was also done at the request of Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab.
Twenty-two percent of respondents said they don’t have access to sufficient PPE at their school, because they are either running out or haven’t received expected supplies.
Regarding physical distancing, 89 percent of teachers reported they can’t maintain the recommended two-metre separation.
When it comes to needs and supports, 48 percent of teachers felt students were not getting the supports they need, while similarly, 50 percent of teachers believed they were not getting the support they needed.
Over 80 percent of teachers identified extra responsibilities on top of their workload, such as cleaning and sanitizing, supervising student handwashing, and preparing additional work/assignments for online and in-class, among other responsibilities.
