With the Saskatchewan election coming up, workers are needed in Yorkton.
Saskatchewan’s Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Michael Boda says they need around 200 workers to work either election day on the 26th or during the advance voting from October 20 to 24th.
“And we’re hoping that people who haven’t worked for us before would take a chance and step forward and give back to their community,” Boda said. “We’d love to see some students who are 16 to 18 to participate in this.”
Boda explained legislation was changed to allow, for the first time, high school students to work as election officials.
Workers would earn about 230 dollars for their labour and attending a 2-hour training session.
Anyone interested can call the Yorkton Returning Office at 306-786-5800.
Boda understands there are concerns around COVID-19 but reassured that voters and workers will be safe.
“All of our workers will be wearing masks and of course hand sanitizer will be available as you go into the polling location and as you come out. There will be clear dividers between the workers and the voters. Single-use pencils will be in place so individuals will be given a pencil but it will be just for their single use.”
The application, and additional information, can also be found on the Elections Saskatchewan website.
