If elected, an NDP government would make COVID-19 recovery in the province an immediate priority.
NDP Leader ,Ryan Meili, says $50 million dollars in funding would be utilized specifically to address the challenges Saskatchewan is facing during the pandemic.
A portion, Meili states, will see $20 million committed to target schools with the largest class sizes. Meili says within the first week of government they would sit down with school divisions to determine exactly where that funding can go and what spaces are available to get to work right away on reducing class sizes.
Meili also committed to immediately boost frontline healthcare staffing to fight COVID-19 in long-term care, with an additional $20 million. He says this will be used to hire more nurses, more long term care staff, help to support overburdened testing sites, and bring in more cleaning staff in long term care. Meili hopes this will avoid the outbreaks seen in other provinces.
The NDP will also provide $10 million in funding for community-based organizations working with the most vulnerable, particularly those suffering from addictions.
Meili says the full $50 million investment was included in their full party platform released earlier this month.
Meili says while he feels voting in the province is safe, he recommends people should be wearing masks to the polls.
