New federal regulations come into effect in November of 2021 for private grade crossings, which will require rail companies like CP and CN to repair the crossings, but they are now billing the private land owners for these repairs in many cases. APAS President Todd Lewis says while many crossings are essential for producers and their families to commute off of their property, some may be removed because they’re no longer needed. APAS, along with Keystone Agricultural Producers in Manitoba and the Alberta Federation of Agriculture are calling for an extension to the regulation deadline from the federal government.
