Increase to Federal Carbon Tax Will Slightly Increase SaskPower Bills

SaskPower reduced their rates by 10% recently, but customers will still see a slight increase on their bills starting in the new year.

The power company’s Joel Cherry says the average 50 cent a month hike, due to the federal carbon tax, will start showing up in February.

“This will be on power consumed starting on January 1st, and so if you’re getting a bill on January 9th you might be paying for those first few days of the month with a slightly higher carbon tax amount on it.” Cherry explained.

The federal carbon tax set to increase $10 a ton January 1st, from $30 to $40 a ton.

He says the impact will be slightly greater on farm customers and businesses.
