Two-Vehicle Collision in Yorkton Sends One Person to Hospital and Crews Cleaning Up Spilled Diesel

Emergency personnel responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the train crossing on Highway 9 in Yorkton this afternoon (Wed).

Yorkton Fire Chief Trevor Morrissey says it involved a southbound vehicle and a northbound semi hauling diesel, resulting in one person being transported to hospital, but the individual’s condition is not known at this time.

It also led to the closure of the road while crews, in hazmat suits, cleaned up the spilled diesel.

“Road conditions seemed to be part of the cause of the accident,” Morrissey said. The Fire Chief confirmed the highway has since reopened to traffic.

In the wake of Tuesday’s snowstorm, Morrissey reminds everyone to travel carefully.

“The road conditions after the storm we’ve had they may seem a lot better but there is areas where they are still quite snow packed and slippery,” he said. “It’s important that everybody takes some caution when driving and we can avoid these kinds of things.”
