Russell Man Charged in Connection With a Fire That Destroyed the Oldest Home in the Community

Charges have been laid, in connection with a fire in Russell, late Tuesday (5th) night, that destroyed the oldest home in the community.

Around 11 p.m., RCMP were called to the scene, on Pelly Avenue, where firefighters were battling a blaze that had fully engulfed the structure, that had been built in 1888.

About two hours later, a call came in to 911, in which a man said he started the fire, giving his location, and when police arrived, they arrested the man, who was found with a container of what was believed to be gasoline.

22-year-old Liam Flett, of Russell, is in custody, charged with Arson, Mischief, and Break and Enter to Commit an Offence.
