Russell Man Appears in Court on Charges From Fire that Engulfed Oldest Building in Russell

A new court date has been set for a man arrested in connection with a fire at the oldest house in Russell.

Last Tuesday night, RCMP were called to the scene on Pelly Avenue, where firefighters were battling a blaze that had fully engulfed the structure, that was built in 1888.

About two hours later, a call came in to 9-1-1, in which a man said he started the fire, giving his location, and when police arrived, he was found with a container of what was believed to be gasoline.

On Friday, 22-year-old Liam Flett of Russell, was released from custody, and he will return to Russell Court on March 24th.
